Today’s session – explored further.

  • Ask about any change in circumstances around the time change noted in presenting information.

  • Social concerns usually will be key to successful ‘aetiology’ and  management plan.

  • Open discussion with ‘How are you coping’ to carer?

  • Practice questions for HEADSS – so they seem natural.

Discussed history and management today.

Learning points:

1: Ask social history sooner – virtually immediately after details of presenting complaints / concerns.

2: Do not believe it till the end.

3: The issue to be discussed and teased out in the history will be due to events in the past 4 to 6 months hence concentrate on this period.

4: It is important to get an idea of when the disease process started but it is not relevant to the current issues of fine details at the time of start-up illness or the investigation does to make a diagnosis.

5: At 9 Min to a brief summary of what has been discussed and you have understood.

6: Ask an open question ‘Is there anything important / relevant you would like to tell me that I have not asked?’

7: The presentation to Examiner should be brief with positive and negative information gathered.

8: The Examiner has listening to your interaction with the role player hands you do not need to mention every minor details.

9: Do NOT forget HEADS with young person.

Good interactive session – introductory statement, video 6 min, history 7 min, presentation & discussion 9 min.

Learning points:

  • Read documents on the web site: www.mrcpchonline.org – links on development page.
  • Reference Care and Educational support in UK as the ‘Gold standard’ to aspire to and what is available locally in the community setting of your work place.
  • Never assume ‘anything’ – example that a child can walk normally. He has hemiplegia.
  • Wheel chair / stroller is NOT only for severely limited children.
  • Concentrate on main concerns and how to manage health issues, school needs and education.

Eye contact has different connotations in different cultures.

In Western setting NOT making eye contact is considered ‘inappropriate’ . In examination for most candidates – when faced with this dilemma – it is

‘How to make eye contact’?’

An easy solution!

Observation:

Sir,

For beginners development is quite a scary thing.the video helped in demonstrating how we can do it step wise.

Your inputs regarding sites for services for disabled children and important support systems was useful

Dr joshi’s case presentation was also helpful in telling us how to take case in a short while with relevancy.plus everyone’s inputs too.
