Dear All
Thank you for participating in the session today.
In RRR we discussed:
- Post Renal transplant complications
- Ill child with joints involvement
- Chronic constipation – causes
The Communication scenario was of a 2 year old admitted following a convulsion, diagnosed as Febrile Convulsion secondary to Otitis media. Father is insisting on a CT scan to be sure. Dr P was in the hotseat, Dr S was a very able role player and Dr M had the examiner hat. Dr P made a very good attempt at the task of dealing with an angry adamant father. There was good feedback by Dr M.
The Learning points are:
- Do NOT forget a chaperone – ward sister / nurse
- How can I help – what have you been told?
- Check Rp’s prior knowledge before your input
- Move to Rp’s agenda
- Do not give too much information
- 30 sec Rule – do NOT forget
- Dialogue and not a monologue
- Avoid jargon – keep it SIMPLE
- You MUST NOT try to tell everything you know
- Use information leaflets
- ARMMS – remember
