Thank you for attending and working thorough the session today.
In RRR we discussed:
- Problems expected of a 30 week preterm
- Diabetes Mellitus – Aims of management / treatment
- Aims of Treatment for a child with Cystic Fibrosis
We started with Video Station. First was a video of 3 year old with puffy eyes. Second was a 4 day old baby with Jaundice and 3rd was 12 year old with vesico-papular rash, left lower thoracic upper lumber dermatomes not crossing the midline.
In video stations after the initial stem and getting clinical clues, develop a differential diagnosis of 2-3 possible causes and if the cause if Irrefutable then think of 2-3 pathologies that may be causing it. You ask history questions to help support or refute your Differentials. Same for What you would like to examine – targeted examination help distil further.
You then discuss with the examiner. This approach is different to what we practice with Online You tube videos.
We then had a PP based discussion on the History station – how History – like Communication is sought all across the exam and you get marks. It is however different in 4 specifics and practice will make perfect.
Our Learning points are:
- Stay calm
- Watch the FULL video before deciding
- Do NOT go in with ONLY One diagnosis
- Practice online videos with Skeleton guide discussed
- Restructure your thinking as emphasis is different to previous exams
- Rehearse H&M scenarios.
