In Rapid Random Review (RRR) we discussed:
- Urine specimen collection in 5 yr old
- Hypoglycaemia in newborn
- Acute Liver Failure – causes
In History we discussed two scenarios:1: 10 year old Asthmatic boy with poor compliance due to family social circumstances & 2nd: 15 year old Diabetic young person with lethargy, malaise for 2-3 months, weight loss and altered bowel habits, HbA1c: 10.5 and Coeliac screen +ve on tests organised by GP.
Communication was Discussion on feeding options for with a lady about to deliver at 30 wks who wishes to breast feed. Dr L was the Role Player and DR PH was in the Hotseat with DR SK with Examiner hat. The scenario was attempted very well and generated some : –
Learning points:
- Practice speaking and talking in Small 30 sec Bytes
- Be Open to RP’s concerns – their agenda
- Do NOT force and stick to your agenda only
- Do NOT forget the TASK in the interaction
- Team work – Nurses, pharmacy, cleaner are all important members of team providing care – respect all
- Phrasing of information is VERY important
- Eye contact essential
- Summarize at 6 mins – need 4-5 sentences ONLY
- Do Not repeat everything discussed
- Listening skills – practice in Real life also NOT only exam
