Dear All
Today we discussed Respiratory station.
The scenario was young lady of 15, admitted with worsening shortness of breath. She had gross clubbing and evidence supporting diagnosis of Cystic fibrosis. The second scenario was a 9 year old with features of Asthma.
Examination in first scenario was detailed and took allocated time of 6 minutes. Examination of child with Asthma was quicker and finished in about 4-5 minutes.
We generally feel ‘relieved’ on getting a comparatively easier case to examine but remember – your discussion is going to be longer and more detailed hence you need to prepare the ‘simple’ cases very thoroughly. In ‘not so simple’ cases viva is usually less intense.
- Remember not to talk too much – you will make a mistake – Foot in Mouth syndrome
- Read current guidelines and have first 4-5 management steps on your finger tips.
- Do not forget your communication skills when speaking with the examiner.
- Common thing Common – when considering Diagnosis.
