MRCPCH 1-2-1 Communication – Anaphylaxis

We had a very productive session today discussing Communication station.

It was good to meet and get to know you a little today. Trust you found the session informative and useful.

MRCPCH Clinical is a different exam to ones you have done so far – emphasis is different in the clinical exam.

Communication is the Most important domain and you get marks all across the exam and not only in the communication station. We had a Hotseat experience of young person with anaphylaxis.

Few key points are:

  • General tips about appearance, hair, bare below elbows, body language
  • Read the information and Task VERY carefully
  • Introductions – confirming Task – Discussion – Summary – closing & Thanking
  • Dialogue and not a Monologue
  • In between: 30 sec Rule – DO NOT speak for more than 30 seconds
  • Shishir’s Rule – 2 minute Rule – plan only for first 2 mins.
  • Interact with RP & use Silence / Pause to emphasize information
  • Summary at 6 minutes – few sentences only needed
  • Anything else for RP or you may have missed
  • Thank RP at end when bell goes.

We have work to do till your exam. The recording will be available by tomorrow for review.
